John david Arias Service award 2026

Reserva de la Casa was founded to honor the beautiful legacy of our parents and our brother, John — people who lived lives rooted in service. They did not wait to be asked. They did not measure whether it was convenient. If someone needed help, they stepped forward. They believed that service was not an obligation — it was a privilege. It was an opportunity to be the light in someone else’s darkness.

John spoke often about the extraordinary care, patience, and dignity given to the young men entrusted at Rancho San Antionio in Chatsworth, CA, not simply as a facility, but as a place of transformation — a place where brokenness could meet hope, where guidance could replace confusion, and where light could reach those who had not seen it in a long time.

John believed deeply in the power of one person to make a difference. He understood that sometimes the smallest act — a kind word, a steady presence, a hand extended without hesitation — can change the direction of a life. That belief is why this scholarship, the JOHN DAVID ARIAS AWARD for SERVICE, carries his name. It stands as a reminder that service matters. Compassion matters. Showing up matters.

The Knights of Columbus were also present to recognize service — because service is not simply what they do, it is who they are. As Men of Service, they live their motto through action, generosity, and brotherhood.

Service has many forms. It may be a word of encouragement. It may be a quiet act of patience. It may be believing in someone before they believe in themselves. True service is love in action — consistent, humble, and courageous.
